Hey all! I know I’ve been missing for a while, sorry about that but to be fair it hasn’t all been my fault. I did try to post a few days ago but for some reason the site wouldn’t let me so I’m going to tag it onto the end of this one. The other reason I haven’t posted recently is because typically I’m ill again it sucks and I’m in quite a lot of pain but right now I’m dealing with it best as possible. Anyway, in my time of need I thought I’d do a post on Guardian Angels. There are many reasons that I’ve chosen to research this topic and write about it and most of you will know some of those reason, but there are too many and to varied to go into right now.

When I think of Guardian Angels or heck any type of Angels I often wonder exactly what that angel is. I know there’s that typical image of them sitting on clouds, strumming hearts and flouncing around in white frocks but that just doesn’t make sense to me. I mean come on Angels work their butts off, are they really going to do it in white, which will stain all the time and almost certainly need to be dry cleaned, I don’t think so. I prefer to think of my Angel as a sensible soul who will wear a pair of kickass jeans, a bright red top and a pair of leather boots to top it off.

Whatever they wear it doesn’t matter what Angels look like I think, the point about an Angel is to feel their presence. To feel an Angels presence it to know pure joy. Angels are basically all about us, they are there to guide us and protect us from harm. The knack is knowing to listen for your Angel, after all if you don’t listen how can you follow their guidance.

The word Angel comes from the Greek angelos which is the equivalent of the Hebrew mal’akh which means ‘messenger’. Socrates stated: ‘God does not deal directly with man; it is by means of spirits that all intercourse and communication of gods with men, both waking in life and in sleep, is carried on.’ Now you all know that I’m not a God kinda girl but I think the guy had a point.

Before Angels, there were Gods and Goddesses, Ancestors and Great Spirit Entities. These were celestial beings that were charged to maintain harmony in the universe and take messages between heaven and Earth- much like Angels. In the polytheistic religions of the ancient world, such as the religion of the Ancient Greeks, they worshiped a whole pantheon of male and female deities. But the important Gods didn’t concern themselves with the day to day running of human life. But to keep the faith of these deities rituals and scarifies were performed, it was also assumed that these would keep the Gods from becoming malevolent towards man. The Greeks also believed in a person guardian spirit, known as the daimon. The Romans called it their genius, the Egyptians their ba or ka. It was believed these were assigned to a person at or prior to their birth.

The Old Testament speaks of seven Arch Angels…I have reason to believe there are more, some with different names, but that is a tale for another day. The most famous of these angels are Michael, Gabriel, Raphael and Uriel. The lesser known angels are Haniel, Raguel and Barakiel.

Michael was the first Angel to be created by God. He is the ruler of the seraphim and he threw Lucifer out of Heaven after the War. He is the one who spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai.

Gabriel is the messenger. As we all know he is the one who spoke to the Virgin Mary. He is also the ruler of cherubim.

Raphael is the angel of the spirits of humankind and the supervisor of Guardian Angels (is also my personal favorite hehe) He is the healer and guardian of young people. He heals the Earth which has been defiled by Lucifer and his minions, it was also he who warned Adam about the dangers of sin. He is the ruling prince of the virtues…and an all round cool Angel in my opinion.

Uriel is the Angel of light. It was he who wielded the fiery sword as he drove Adam and Eve from Eden. He warned Noah about the flood and predicted the coming of the Jewish Messiah.

Haniel is the glory or grace of God. He is invoked as a guardian against evil. He is the ruling prince of principalities.

Raguel is an Angel of Earth. He brings erring Angels to account and punishes them accordingly.

Barakiel is known as ‘lightning of God’. He is invoked to bring success in games of chance.

Angels are manifestations of divine energy whoa re dedicated to promoting spiritual harmony in the universe. They channel love to wherever it is required and they assist those who need them. We all have the guidance of a Guardian Angel who we can call upon in times of emotional confusion or when we are in danger. The personality of the Guardian Angel who is assigned to us is carefully chosen so it compliments our own, for example mine is a pretty dry, sarcastic fellow…who I adore. Yes you are welcome to worry about me.

Can you recall the times in your life where you were prompted to act on instinct, discarding logic and the results were better than if you’d taken the sensible route, it can be said that it is your Guardian Angel guiding you. Guardian Angels are evolved to realize that whilst you live on a material planet you shall have to learn the material values that go along with it not just the spiritual values they wish to teach you. They help you find a balance between the two. The do not wish to intrude into your privacy and let you learn through experience, they do not judge you at all.

There are ways that you can actually build a relationship with your Guardian Angel. It is no more difficult or less rewarding that building a friendship with anyone else. One simple way is to acknowledge the Angel, many people don’t do this because they don’t believe. There are some simple steps that do this;
1. A simple greeting as you start each day and thank you at night will be appreciated by your angel.
2. If you feel incline wear and angel pendant or pin etc as proof of your faith with your angel.
3. Pledge your trust every so often with a simple saying such as; Guardian Angel, who I trust, please guide my actions today
4. Show your respect by being conscious of your intuitive feelings that your Angel sends and go with those actions.
5. Occasionally pledge your loyalty by finding a chant that works for you, such as; Guardian Angel I acknowledge your presence in my life, I trust the guidance you offer me, I respect the power of this union and I shall remain loyak to our cause by doing my best to evolve spiritually and psychically, Thank you Of course this one doesn’t do for all. My Angel would sooner bop me on the head than hear me say that…*laugh*

There are several exercises that can be done to help you communicate with your Angel but I know you must be getting bored by now so if you want to know more just ask. Now I don’t agree with all of the above but I do find it a fascinating topic to learn about.

Next my bit on relaxation and then I promise I’ll be quiet lol.

Recently a very dear friend of mine mentioned to me that they found it very hard to relax. I have to say I found this very sad as I think that being able to relax is one of the true joys of life...the chance to relax comes so rarely. Anyway, after that I found myself caught up in the trap of not relaxing myself, I had a very important show to do and then I got asked to learn a whole lot of lines for a play. Luckily that panic was soon over, so I spent my day...relaxing. I felt so wonderful afterwards that I couldn't wait to tell my friend what a wonderful thing it was, and than it occurred to me, maybe they wouldn't appreciate that particular relaxation method. This got me thinking, how do people relax? What wild and wonderful lengths do people go to to chill? So this post is devoted to my friend, and any of you who have trouble just kicking back.

My day of relaxation was spent in a Spa, *laugh* Yeah, not my usual place of calling. However, I had been brought a gift voucher for it and I was determined to enjoy myself. Take what I could out of the experience. Firstly I was pointed in the direction of the swimming pool, now I'm not much of a swimmer (I used to be great but then there were issues, looong story) but I managed my fair share of lengths. I had the whole flipping place to myself. I noticed two little rooms with instructions, so I followed them. I spent five minutes in the sauna (not my fave place, very claustrophobic) then five minutes in the steam room (*Dreamily* Mmmm, steam.) And then I dived in the pool. It was wonderful. I don't know why it worked so well but it felt fantastic. Then I was directed to the relaxation room where all I had to do was chill, there was literally nothing else for me to do. I whiled away the time with writing notes and re-reading P&P. Lunch was served (which was a wonderful Smoked salmon, cream cheese on brioche) and then soon after I went and had my treatments. I had a great back massage, I never knew that my back could feel so loose, and I also had a facial. They mixed up a pack that was special for my skin, containing ylang-ylang amongst other things. I came out feeling utterly peaceful, but like I said that method wouldn't do for everyone.

Another popular method of relaxation if 'Meditation'. This works with the idea of letting your stress and troubles float away until you're at peace with yourself. After all what could be more relaxing than feeling comfortable in your own skin?

Another way of relaxing is sleeping, easier said than done I know but there are several techniques that are supposed to help. One is progressive relaxation. This technique is often most useful when you tape the instructions beforehand. You can tape these instructions, reading them slowly and leaving a short pause after each one. (Taken from sleep site...not sure which one, ain't google great?)

Lie on your back, close your eyes.
Feel your feet. Sense their weight. Consciously relax them and sink into the bed. Start with your toes and progress to your ankles.
Feel your knees. Sense their weight. Consciously relax them and feel them sink into the bed.
Feel you upper legs and thighs. Fell their weight. Consciously relax them and feel them sink into the bed.
Feel your abdomen and chest. Sense your breathing. Consciously will them to relax. Deepen your breathing slightly and feel your abdomen and chest sink into the bed.
Feel your buttocks. Sense their weight. Consciously relax them and feel them sink into the bed.
Feel your hands. Sense their weight. Consciously relax them and feel them sink into the bed.
Feel your upper arms. Sense their weight. Consciously relax them and feel them sink into the bed.
Feel your shoulders. Sense their weight. Consciously relax them and feel them sink into the bed.
Feel your neck. Sense its weight. Consciously relax it and feel it sink into the bed.
Feel your head and skull. Sense its weight. Consciously relax it and feel it sink into the bed.
Feel your mouth and jaw. Consciously relax them. Pay particular attention to your jaw muscles and unclench them if you need to. Feel your mouth and jaw relax and sink into the bed.
Feel your eyes. Sense if there is tension in your eyes. Sense if you are forcibly closing your eyelids. Consciously relax your eyelids and feel the tension slide off the eyes.
Feel your face and cheeks. Consciously relax them and feel the tension slide off into the bed.
Mentally scan your body. If you find any place that is still tense, then consciously relax that place and let it sink into the bed.

Another techniques is actually toe tensing. Sounds crazy but if your tense all your toes for ten seconds, then release...then repeat until you've done it ten times. It actually helps you relax and/or sleep.

There are others to do with imagery and breathing but I felt that they applied under meditation. Maybe I'll do a longer post later on meditation and the benefits of it, but right now that isn't where my thought pattern takes me.

There are also various types of muscle relaxation that are involved in relaxing that look interesting, again this deals with the idea of releasing stress. Isn't it amazing how stress knots up our muscles, stops us sleeping, makes us worry...a whole plethora of things. So maybe the key to relaxing is to remove stress. Impossible for long periods of time, but maybe its possible to remove it for long enough that the period of relaxation stays with us through the next stress episode.

Colour can be used to remove stress. I wasn't able to find as much information as I would like on this but I saw a mention somewhere that it’s all connected to your aura.

And then there’s the simple method of doing something that you really enjoy. It’s amazing how much that helps. For example I really enjoy re-reading some of my fave books; the familiarity soothes me and makes me feel very good.

Right I am done; FINALLY I hear you cry. *Laugh* Come on give a sick girl a break you meanies….aww you know I adore you all. Now to go nosey some more around that site [livejournal.com profile] exploding_candy showed me.
